The Effect of Acute Lithium and Ami-193, a New 5ht2 Antagonist, on Apomorphine-induced Pecking in Pigeon
نویسنده
چکیده
Intramascular (IM) administration of apomorphine ( a mixed D1/D2 dopamine receptors agonist ,0.2-1.6 mg/kg ) induced pecking,a stereotype behavior in pigeons in a dosedependent manner. In this study the effect of lithium (Li, 240 mg/kg, IM) and AMI-193(a new 5-HT2 antagonist, 0.003 mg/pigeon) on apomorphine-induced pecking (AIP) were investigated. This study showed that Li and AMI-193 did not induce pecking by itself but administration of each of these agents before apomorphine increased and decreased the AIP (apomor-phine 0.8 mg/kg) respectively whereas concomitant use of Li(240 mg/kg IM) and AMI-193 decreased AIP significantly. These results suggested that 5-HT2 antagonists inhibit the inhibitory effect of serotonin on the dopamine release in the raphe-striatal pathway but Lican modulate dopamine and serotonin function by different mechanisms and decrease this effect. As a result, it is concluded serotonin can decrease the AIP through 5-HT2 receptors indirectly by decrease the dopamine release. Acta Medica Iranica: 40 (2): 109-114; 2002

Dextromethorphan is an NMDA receptor antagonist in the glutamatergic system. Currently, there are some reports showing that the glutamatergic NMDA receptor mechanism stimulates dopamine release from several brain regions. This effect may in part modulate the stereotyped behaviors of dopaminergic system. The purpose of the present study was to determine the interaction between the blockade of NM...

In the present study, interactive effects of D1 and D2 dopamine receptors antagonists and different periods of lithium pretreatment on morphine dependence in mice have been investigated. This study was designed to investigate whether the hypothesis that lithium and dopaminergic mechanisms via their effects on phosphoinositide pathways and calcium flux could influence morphine withdrawal respons...

Background and purpose: b-carboline alkaloids, also known as harmala's alkaloids have a wide spectrum of pharmacological actions including a stimulatory action on release of dopamine and other catecholamines in several brain regions and an inhibitory action on monoamine oxidase (MAO). These findings suggest that b-carbolines should alleviate at least some of the dopaminergic stereotyped behav...

Background and purpose : Dextromethorphan is a non-competitive NMDÂ receptor antagonist in the glutamatergic system with over 47 years of clinical usage experience as an over-the counter antitussive drug. We previously demonstrated that dextromethorphan modulates the pain threshold in the mouse acetic acid (0.6%,intraperitonealy)-induced writhing test (a tonic and chemical model for chronic p...
